School Day

The school day at Woodlands Primary Academy starts at 8.30am when the doors into class open, and registration then takes place at 8.40am.

Children in years 1 and 2 (Key Stage 1) will have read write inc session every morning and all classes have their English, maths and science lessons during the morning.

Break time is at 10.25am – 10.40am for Key stage 1 and 10.45am – 11.00am for key stage 2. Pupils in KS1 are provided with fruit for snack time. KS2 can bring in fruit from home for snack time or purchase fruit from the kitchen.  Maths, English or Science lessons then continue for the rest of the morning.

Lunch time is at 12.00pm – 1.00pm for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. There is a computer club that students can attend during lunch times and numerous sports clubs also take place.

During the afternoons the lessons are usually topic based, varying from Art and DT to music and PE. PE lessons take place twice weekly; please check the days with your child’s class teacher.

Guided reading is an essential part of every day.

It can directly help students in these ways:

  • establish fundamental skills necessary for reading.
  • identify weaknesses and helps strengthen specific skills.
  • improve attention to detail.
  • build on fluency.
  • expand vocabulary knowledge.
  • develop reading comprehension skills.

Our school day ends at 3.15pm for key stage 1 and key stage 2. Various afterschool sports clubs are on offer for students to partake in, should they wish. Please find an up-to-date time table at the main office.

We also offer a breakfast and after school club for those who need it. Please have a look at the sunrise and sunset page.

The total time that the school is open during the week is 32.5 hours for reception and Key Stage 1 and 32.9 hours for Key Stage 2.
